Chelsea scrap Abdennour loan agreement after re-signing David Luiz
The London side had done a deal with Valencia for the centre-back but the move fell through on Wednesday following the return of the Brazilian to Stamford BridgeChelsea have pulled out of their deal to sign Valencia centre-back Aymen Abdennour after bringing David Luiz back to the club, We can reveal.
The Blues had turned to Abdennour as Wednesday's transfer deadline neared, after they had been turned down for multiple targets including Kalidou Koulibaly and Leonardo Bonucci.
Antonio Conte was desperate to do a deal for a new defender but his needs were met when the club re-signed David Luiz from Paris Saint-Germain for €45 million (£38m).
The deal to take Abdennour to Stamford Bridge on a season-long basis therefore fell through, with the Tunisian's status at Valencia now uncertain after they completed the loan signing of Eliaquim Mangala from Manchester City.
The Frenchman was seen as a direct replacement for Abdennour, who endured a torrid introduction to La Liga last season, but it appears that they will now complete for a starting spot at Mestalla.
